1. What is Chiang Mai Scooter Rental all about?
Chiang Mai Scooter Rental is a small family company that rents out scooters and motorcycles. In 2008, we opened up our scooter rental business in Chiang Mai and became an officially registered company in Thailand. The company was founded by the Russian-Karen family, who has been living in Thailand for several years. Initially, the company had only three motorcycles, which were leased to friends and acquaintances coming to Thailand for a visit. When the motorcycles were not rented out, they were being used for personal use, such as trips to the store or to the river. Over time, the recommendations from friends and acquaintances led to the increase in quantity of our motor vehicles. Then as more customers came back repeatedly and recommended our company to others as a reliable and trustworthy business, our number of rentals increased quickly as well. Chiang Mai Scooter Rental is a place where you can rent a bike and not worry about a bad situation, which is often faced by tourists in Thailand.
Now our motor park has more than 50 motor vehicles and continues to grow, thanks to our customers who don’t skimp on their recommendations to others. We, in turn, try to provide the best service for motorcycle and scooter rentals that you can find in Chiang Mai.
2. What makes Chiang Mai Scooter Rental different from other scooter rental services?
When we initially opened our company we set a goal to not be just another motorbike rental business in Chiang Mai. Instead, we wanted to be the best service amongst all the other services available on the market. We didn’t even care how long our competitors had been in business or what their reputation was. And, to tell the truth, I believe that we have succeeded as a result.
Why do I think so? Let’s compare, for example, our rental bikes and any other rentals in Chiang Mai.
3. What are the benefits that Chiang Mai Scooter Rental offers tourists?
Chiang Mai has a lot of street vendors that try to rent out motorcycles to tourists passing by. But very often, the motorcycles they are renting out to their clients are of extremely poor quality. Our clients have told us about their past experiences with these types of sellers. They even had cases where their rented bike broke down about 500 meters after driving away from the point where they rented the bike.
These types of incidences would not happen in our company. Our motorcycles are constantly under maintenance, even if they are rented. Our employees go to the customer’s home or hotel to perform maintenance, check the performance of the main components and assemblies, change the oil, check the tire pressure, battery charge, and so on. Best of all, we do this while the client is sleeping, eating or watching TV. This allows us not to inconvenience them in any way. When our motorcycles are not rented, we perform regular maintenance on the motorcycles right out in the parking lot.
Maintenance is a very important part of the whole process because it allows us to feel confident that our client will be safe driving down the road, and that a break will not occur. Plus the customer will be satisfied with the driving dynamics of our motorcycles and will continue to be our friend and regular customer when they arrive in Chiang Mai next time. Each recommendation we are given is a new client for our family business and an opportunity to grow our company even bigger in the future.
Our company is required to issue a first aid kid to each client. In my opinion, it is also very important to do so. Sometimes clients fall and skin their hands and feet. When they are taken to receive treatment at the hospital, they have to pay $100 for such a simple procedure, and more, in the event that they do not have insurance.
In addition, not everyone has the opportunity to get treatment at a hospital or clinic in a timely manner after they injure themselves. For example, if you decide to go on a motorcycle from Chiang Mai to Pai, the length of the path will be 120 kilometers until you get to the 762 turn. It will take approximately 3.5-4 hours to do this. You will not find a single clinic or hospital on this entire path. This is tragic because accidents and emergency situations happen quite frequently there.
In our opinion, you have to put the health of the client first. That is why we always give our clients a first aid kit before they leave on the motorcycle. Other rental scooter companies in Chiang Mai don’t offer first aid kits to their customers because they never think anything will happen to them. Before opening our business, we owned more than 40 rented motorcycles within different companies so I know what I’m saying. Nobody thinks about what could happen when their client goes out on the road. We are the first rental scooter company who thought of supplying first aid kits.
In Thailand, there are many motorcycle thefts in parking lots. It not only happens to tourists, but also to local residents. However, tourists’ motorcycles are stolen more often. I will not describe why this is so. You can just read the forums dedicated to living in Thailand or traveling within Thailand, and it will immediately become understandable. It especially happens in coastal cities where about 3000-4000 tourists arrive every 1-2 weeks.
In our case, we give each client a special lock chain that they can use to fix their bike. You can be sure if a motorcycle has a hanging lock chain, then it is likely that a hijacker would not touch it or try to use the bike with the chain on there.
Scooter rental companies very rarely provide helmets to their clients. Under a full helmet, I have at least a standard “three-quarters” in size.
We give our clients rolled helmets that have the standard “three-quarters” and sometimes even a “full-face” if it is requested. The helmet options we provide make us different from all the other scooter rental companies in Chiang Mai.
We provide free SIM cards to our customers. Tourists do not often have the opportunity to buy a SIM card in Chiang Mai. They are usually too tired, and they want to sleep. Either that or they do not know where the nearest store is that sells SIM cards. They cannot understand which cards have profitable rates, along with many other details. Sometimes, SIM cards can be obtained at the airport upon arrival, but not always. Beyond that, SIM cards that are handed out at the airport add zero cents to the balance sheet and do not fill up the balance whatsoever. Again, you need to know where to replenish the balance.
We give every client a SIM card and local mobile operator. For example, with this SIM card in Thailand, you can use Facebook free for 3 months. This service is provided exclusively by us. Yes, we have to pay for it out of pocket, but our goal is always to maintain customer satisfaction. That is why we do it.
Each of our motorcycle rentals come with health insurance for the driver. If you pay extra, as in some other rental locations, you do not need anything.
Those who came to Chiang Mai, especially in the spring, know that at this time in Chiang Mai there is a lot of smog and dust in the air. That is why we offer each client a free anti-dust mask. And again, we are 100% sure that no other rental business in the city offers these masks to their customers. I know what I’m talking about =)
Of course, we offer free maintenance which I mentioned earlier. Timely replacement of blown bulbs and discharged batteries, replacement of engine oil and transmission oil – it’s all done in a timely manner, so customers can feel confident in the reliability of our bikes.
If our client gets into an accident on the road, then we help them to resolve all issues. We help with hospitalization, if necessary, and finishing the interaction with the insurance company that must pay for the treatment in the hospital.
If the customer has an accident, we carry out all repair work at official dealerships. For example, the replacement of the mirror will cost the client around $ 2 to $5, depending on the model of the motorcycle. The forum is full of examples where people pay for a similar problem at around $10 to $15. Perhaps this is a good model of monetization of your business. The prices of spare parts are 5 times more expensive than they are in reality, but not in this case.
In the near future, there will be customized motorcycles that cater to taller people in order to establish a more comfortable seat for them. It will also put a higher wheel on the bike so that drivers taller than 180 centimeters are not rested on their knees while steering the wheel to drive and go around corners. No one usually does anything about this problem. But we constantly observe and notice that our taller clients have problems when driving scooters. Now we are looking for companies that will be able to change the factory design on some of the motorcycles for us and make them more convenient for taller customers.
Today, we offer tourists a wide range of motorcycle models. Starting from 110ss (Yamaha Fino, Yamaha Spacy) and ending with the more powerful models (Honda PCX150i, Suzuki Burgman). Each of these models has been repeatedly tested for convenient driving and operating before being offered for rent.
4. How do you solve problems faced by tourists visiting Chiang Mai through motorcycle rental?
Just recently we have created the first complete online booking system for scooters in Thailand. There have been online booking systems in Thailand before, but we were the first to propose a complete booking system. One where tourists can choose the model of the motorcycle, delivery date, delivery time, delivery location, time and other options that are normally available in the car rental business.
At the same time, it is very important that the client does not need to go anywhere. After they make their order and the order is confirmed, we bring the bike to their place of residence and then pick up the bike after their rental period is over. All you need to do as a tourist is conduct online booking, and at the appointed time to open the door for the courier and get the keys to the motorbike rental.
It seems to me that it is very convenient. Have you come to rest? Relax! We will take care of the rental bike for you!
We have recently added ticket selling to our list of services. With ticket sales, we do not charge any additional fees. All tickets we sell are at the same prices as the official ticket offices. And even more than that, we do not just sell tickets and explain what the better ride is. For example, in Chiang Mai, there are three almost identical attractions, with the best attraction being two times cheaper than the most popular attraction. We explain the nuance of these customers to our future clients who’ve already chosen how much they want to spend and on what. We make them realize that popularity and advertising don’t necessarily mean good quality, even if they are more expensive.
As a result, customers are satisfied with the quality of our services; we in turn are pleased that new customers continue to recommend us to friends and acquaintances alike.
The motto of our service: “We treat the customer the same way you want your friends to treat you.”
5. What are your plans for Chiang Mai Scooter Rental few years to this time?
Few years from now, we plan to increase the quantity of our scooters, as well as to open branches on the franchise in Hua Hin, Samui, Phuket, and in other popular places of Thailand. In a few years, if everything goes as planned, we plan to become the largest provider of high quality rental motorcycles in Thailand by connecting rentals through our online booking system.
